內容提要:

Pandemic narratives, in the forms of both historical documentations and media representations, provide us with valuable information to understand how humans had conquered, coped and coexisted with invisible diseases over the past thousands of years. Drawing examples from classical European paintings, Hollywood drama, Chinese documentaries and online texts, this talk explores the power of visual art and media in promoting global solidarity and cooperation in pandemic times. It explores how the pandemic brings a range of ethical issues into our focus: from bioethical debates on laboratory animals, to film and media ethics against fake news and insensitive representations. At this pandemic time characterised by closing borders, social distancing, grief and anxiety, the talk also argues in order to bring hope back to humanity, it is crucial to cultivate new forms of posthuman convergence and harmony through extending our care and empathy for animals and the broader nonhuman world.
